2016 Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid eAssist System
Heads up, green car fans! Chevrolet is adding another hybrid model to its lineup and it isn’t something you’d expect. The Chevrolet Silverado equipped with a hybrid powertrain left the market after the 2013 model year. Now the automaker is looking to add a mild hybrid system to the popular full-size pickup amid rising sales in larger vehicles.
The Chevrolet Silverado hybrid comes equipped with an eAssist system that gives a small boost to power and increases fuel economy. At the cost of $500, the Silverado hybrid earns an estimated 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.
The eAssist system is mated to the Silverado’s standard 5.3-liter V8 engine. For the 2016 model year, the pickup is only available on the Silverado 1500 crew cab two-wheel drive 1LT trim. That trim includes the “All-Star” package which adds an array of other items to the truck.
Chevrolet plans to build just 500 of the hybrid pickups, but it won’t be on sale across the country. If the pickup does well, production will be adjusted accordingly.
Expect a price tag of around $42,000. The Chevrolet Silverado hybrid model is expected to roll onto the market in limited numbers this spring.
